This tour joins two magical cities of Chiang Mai, Thailand, and Luang Prabang, Laos. We'll cycle the northern part of Thailand, a mountainous region bordering Burma and Laos and punctuated by the mighty Mekong River. This region was made infamous by warlords and drug smugglers, and the area was baptised "the golden triangle" with a history as colourful as the people that inhabit it. And, as if still in a daze, the country has maintained a tantilzing and genuine way of life, one that is arguably the most purely Southeast Asian of all the countries in the region. As we cycle the hills of Laos, we'll see the multitude of tribal villages that highlight the tour. The people, the culture and landscape gives Laos an appropriate reputation as one of Asia's Shangri Las.

Itinerary
& Highlights |

Day 1 - Meet & greet in Chiang Mai, and then head out for an easy cycle along the Ping River to a handcraft center.
Day 2 - Start at the Chiang Dao caves and ride a fun mountain bike trail among soaring limestone cliffs and rice fields. We'll meet numerous hill tribes along the way.
Day 3 - Cycle to Tub Tao Caves and temple retreat, then continue to Mae Salak on one of the most scenic rides of our tour. We'll rest for the night at a beautiful resort next to a Lahu village, where the village children come to perform traditional music and dances.
Day 4 – Cycle along rierside trails to Chiang Rai. Stop at a forestry reserve for lunch and take a boat ride.
Day 5 – An easy ride along the impressive Mekong River. We'll see some splendid views that stretch across the boarder into Laos.
Day 6 - Cross the boarder into Laos to board our private boat. We spend the day relaxing on this river cruise. We'll stop at some riverside villages along the way.
Day 7 – We'll experience Laos's reputed magic today as we ride through unforgettable villages, mountain and jungle scenery. Tonight, we'll stay with a local family for a genuine Laos experience- one of the tour's highlights.
Day 8 – Ride along hill paths that locals use as thoroughfares. This area is comprised of an astonishing 23 ethnic groups, so we meet numerous villagers along the way, all in unique tribal attire. This is a real glimpse into rural life in Asia.
Day 9 – Ascending from Laos's central highlands, we'll cycle up 1000 meters to the famous Hmong villages, where few tourists ever visit. The afternoon offres a breath-taking descent through one of the region's last rain forests. The views on this ride are stunning.
Day 10 – Take a boat ride through the jungle, and stop to visit famous caves that are crowded with Buddha relics. Then, take to bikes to cycle to Luang Prabang, one of the most scenic and charming cities in Southeast Asia.
Day 11 – A free day to explore Luang Prabang. We offer an optional ride to the impressive Krunsri Falls. Then, transfer to the airport for onward travels. |

We use a variety of accommodation and we try to find places of charm and character that fit in well with the surrounding area. We will have 5 nights in tourist class hotels, 2 nights in guesthouses and 2 nights in 3 star hotels. All hotels will have private facilities including hot water, private bathroom. Guesthouses will be more basic with a mixture of private and shared facilities. All accommodation will be clean and comfortable. |
