Training to be an Outdoor Pursuits Instructor - Is it for me?
The Complete Instructor Course is for people who want to gain skills in outdoor activities and outdoor education. By participating in the course you will kick start your career as an outdoor instructor and gain a broad base of technical outdoor skills, leading to nationally recognised qualifications, NGBs. You do not need to have previous experience in any of the activities but you will need to have a basic level of fitness, have a love for being in the outdoors and be motivated to work intensively with our instructors. We particularly welcome applications from people who are looking for a change of direction in their working life.
16 weeks of outdoor training including 2 weeks climbing in Spain
The is a 4 month intensive course based in the heart of the Dartmoor National Park and the east coast of Spain. It is a practical course with 90% of our time spent outside, learning by doing. During this time you will be coached by instructors keen to share their experience and passion for the outdoors. The team will guide you step by step as your skills develop. You will also receive a number of short lectures in the evenings to give you some underpinning theory and historical knowledge of the outdoor industry. The course will take you all over Devon and Cornwall and we will spend time in the mountains of North Wales, plus the first 2 weeks of climbing in Spain, taking advantage of the superb climbing and perfect weather.
By the end of the course:
* you can expect to have gained internationally recognised qualifications in kayaking, canoeing, climbing, and walking.
* you will have experienced the delights of white water and surf kayaking.
* you will gain certificates in mountain first aid
* You will also develop your skills of working with people and gain a greater understanding of how people interact in groups.
