8 day road tour of south and central DALMATIA covering to Dubrovnik, Island Korcula, Split and Island Brac

Dubrovnik-the city of a unique political and cultural history (the Dubrovnik Republic, the statute from 1272), of world famous cultural heritage and beauty (inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO) – is one of the most attractive and famous cities of the Mediterranean. “The Napoleon Road”– this is the name of the road on which we are riding from Neum to Metkovic. The road has initially been constructed by French troops in Napoleon's times to connect the 3 main towns of The Illiryc Provinces, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik Neretva is the largest river of the eastern part of the Adriatic Basin. It has been harnessed and controlled to a large extent by several hydroelectric power-plants and their storage lakes, but it still remains unique in its beauty and the diversity of its landscape. The valley has a rich monumental heritage witnessing the presence of man in this area for thousands of years. Many prehistorically fortifications and settlements are scattered on high and low grounds along the Neretva River. In the 4th century B.C., the Greeks founded an emporium (port) here, which developed into the well known market town Narona, today the Village Vid near Metkovic. Lately, the newest theory says that Narona has actually been ancient Troy/ Illies.

Island Korcula
The fortifications and narrow streets, churches and palaces prove irresistible to today's visitor just as it impressed medieval writers and travel writers. One of the most famous travel writers, Marco Polo, began his life's journey in his hometown-Korcula. Vineyards of Korcula are world famous, and some vines, for example Posip, Grk and Rukatac have been synonyms of this island.

Split-a city with a 1700 year old tradition, a variety of archaeological, historical and cultural monuments, among with the well known Palace of Diocletian, inscribed into UNESCO World Heritage List, the Peristyle of the palace, Diocletian's mausoleum, Jupiter's temple, the colonnades along the streets, Early Croatian churches, Romanesque houses.... With the passing centuries the original architecture of the palace has been altered, but the people of the city were able to use the structure of the palace, damaging it as little as possible, under Byzantine, Venetian and Austro-Hungarian rule.


Island Brac
The largest island of The Central Dalmatian group of islands. Brac was inhabited as early as Neolithic, featuring also the archaeological sites from the Bronze and Iron ages (hill forts Rat near Lozisca, Skrip, and from the period of the Greek colonization. The Illyrian, Greek, Roman, Venetian, period has left also many traces. The highest peak of the island, Vidova Gora is also the highest peak of all Croatian Islands.
Stone quarries from where the stone was used for building White House in Washington and Diocletian's Palace Split. We will be passing near stone quarries, the unique pebbly beach in Bol, Vidova Gora – the highest point on Adriatic Islands (778m). Riding through olive groves, lush pine forest and ancient fisherman villages.
