DAY 1 & 2: AUCKLAND
The morning will start with a tour of Auckland City and the surrounding beaches. Over the next two days you can shark dive, abseil down waterfalls at Piha Canyon, learn to surf Auckland wild-west coast beaches, sail an America’s cup yacht, climb Auckland Bridge…. Your Haka Tour guide is an expert on all things adventure so can advise you first hand on the options that are available to you!
DAY 3: AUCKLAND TO MERCURY BAY
Today we head off for Mercury Bay where you will be taken to Hot Water Beach where you can dig in the sand for hot spring water and make your own hot tub! We will explore the most amazing coastline and beaches in Cathedral Cove which has a stunning panoramic cliff top view. This afternoon we carve our own kiwi pendant from bone known as a “tiki” and you are able to kayak the serene crystal clear waters of the Whitanga!
DAY 4: MECURY BAY TO WAITOMO
Journey underground on a subterranean adventure through limestone chambers and passages. Be suspended in awe and silence, surrounded by cave decorations and a galaxy of tiny living lights as you glide quietly beneath the lights of thousands of glow-worms. Choose the level of caving adventure which suits you from black water rafting to a 5 hour caving adventure taking you to the depths of the Ruakuri Cave designed strictly for the super adventurous!
DAY 5: WAITOMO TO ROTORUA
Today we make a short two-hour journey to Rotoura, one of New Zealand’s original tourist destinations. At nearby geothermal hotspots, there are spouting geysers, boiling mud pools and warm geothermal springs. Rotorua is also at the heartland of New Zealand Maori culture, and tonight we experience the warm spirit of Te Maori with an evening night’s entertainment at a marae where we taste a hangi and witness an awe-inspiring haka performance.
DAY 6: ROTORUA TO TAUPO
This morning you have the chance to experience the power and might of the Rangitiki River. Try your hand at “sledging” where you surf down rapids on specialised plastic bodyboards. The grade 5 white-water rafting here is phenomenal! Pass through steep, bush clad canyons, over 14 awesome drops including the jaw dropping 7m Tutea falls. In the afternoon, we continue our journey south to the picture perfect Lake Taupo.
DAY 7: FREE DAY TAUPO
Today you have a chance to walk the Tongariro Crossing rated as one of the best day walks in the world! Our sky dive options over Lake Taupo are always one of our most popular activities and can be conducted this morning or tomorrow before we leave for River Valley. Or how about the Taupo Bungy, New Zealand’s highest water touch bungy?
DAY 8: TAUPO TO RIVER VALLEY
Today we head to River Valley. This place epitomises tranquillity… with a streak of adrenalin running through its belly! The River Valley Lodge is home to world class Grade 5 white water rafting, inflatable kayaking, scenic eco-rafting, horse trekking and guided natural and cultural interpretive bush walks. Everything here is world-class set amongst a backdrop of “mother nature’s best work”.
DAY 9: RIVER VALLEY TO WELLINGTON
Today, we continue our journey south to Wellington, New Zealand’s capital. This afternoon you can conduct a half a day Lord of the Rings tour, wakeboard / water-ski, utilise one of the extensive mountain bike tracks or spend time in the Courtney district famous for it’s café culture.
DAY 10: WELLINGTON TO NELSON
This morning, we cruise across the Cook Strait through the Marlborough Sounds to Picton. A short drive to Nelson will see us on the outskirts of Abel Tasman National Park. This afternoon, we have time to explore one of the most beautiful regions of New Zealand; azure skies and wide open spaces, beaches and lakes, spectacular national parks and unique landforms define this stunning region.
DAY 11: FREE DAY NELSON
Today we explore Able Tasman National Park. You would be far pushed to find a coastal environment more beautiful. Set against a canvas of blue sky, native bush and crystal clear water, you can explore an array of perfect miniature beaches with golden beaches. A half day kayak to “Split Apple” is one of our favourite activities or feel free to find a secluded beach and go snorkelling.
DAY 12: NELSON TO GREYMOUTH
On the way to Greymouth, we spend the afternoon at Punakaiki, which is located near the centre of the "Coast Road", one of the most spectacular coastal drives in the world. Or you can choose to go heli-rafting to exclusive grade 5 rapids only accessible via heli-copter, far off the beaten track.
DAY 13: GREYMOUTH TO FRANZ JOSEF
Today we take a leisurely and short trip to Franz Josef. How does sky diving high over rainforests with views of Mount Cook, Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, the most spectacular parts of the Southern Alps sound?
DAY 14: FREE DAY FRANZ JOSEF
From high in New Zealand’s Southern Alps, The Franz Josef Glacier descends deep into the lush rainforest of Westland’s National Park, giving you the opportunity to experience the most dramatic glacial environment available to the general public anywhere in the world! Today you will have an option to hike on Franz Josef with professional and experienced guides with either a half or full day glacier hike.
DAY 15: FRANZ JOSEF TO WANAKA
Today we cruise along the western reaches of the South Island, ambling towards Wanaka. Initially we pass through the rainforests in the Westland World Heritage Park, with the highlight of the journey being greeted by the shores of picturesque Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea. Over 1,300 feet deep and an incredible blue, both lakes are fringed by breathtaking mountain ranges. Our wakeboarding / water-skiing packages or a lake cruise are an ideal way to spend a summer’s afternoon. Driving a monster truck known as “School Bully” (the world’s largest school truck) over a course of cars is a great stress buster!
DAY 16: WANAKA TO QUEENSTOWN
Wake up to an incomparable alpine panorama. Mount Aspiring National Park has world-renowned hiking trails as well as being a complete snow sports destination. For those of you that want to up the ante', we have a selection of discounted heli-skiing options designed to take your Haka experience to a whole new level!
DAY 17: FREE DAY QUEENSTOWN
Heli-rafing, canyoning, river surfing, bungy jumping the Nevis Bluff, snowboarding / skiing 4 different ski fields, the Canyon Swing, climbing, cliff jumping and jet boating are all on your door step! If choosing from this selection is too daunting, choose our Queenstown specific Extreme Activity Pack which combines hand-selected activity combinations! Not surprising Queenstown is the adventure capital of the world!
DAY 18: QUEENSTOWN TO LAKE TEKAPO
Lake Tekapo is a picture perfect alpine village in the heart of the South Island high country. A ski resort in winter and aquatic playground in summer, Lake Tekapo sits at the edge of its 20-kilometer glacial lake namesake, completely surrounded by the impressive Southern Alps. A scenic flight over two world heritage sites is a discounted activity for Haka customers
DAY 19: LAKE TEKAPO TO CHRISTCHURCH
It’s just a short drive out to Christchurch travelling over the Burkes Pass and through the towns of Fairlie and Geraldine to arrive in Christchurch in the early afternoon. Today we spend the afternoon exploring the South Island’s largest city.
DAY 20: FREE DAY CHRISTCHURCH
Christchurch is located on the east peninsula of the South Island and has some world class water based activities. We offer the “Ultimate Days Rafting” where we explore the intricate grade 5 rapids on the Rangitata River. Christchurch is also home to Taylor’s Mistake and Sumner Beach, two excellent surfing beaches. Extreme jet boating on the Waimakairi River is sure to get the heart pounding, skimming along shingle banks and spinning 360 degrees!
Day 21: CHRISTCHURCH TO KAIKOURA
The seaside settlement of Kaikoura has stunning coastal alpine scenery and a host of eco-tourism oriented activities. The coastline also produces some epic swells and is an ideal place to fine tune your surfing skills as well as experience first hand a range of aquatic wildlife.
DAY 22: KAIKOURA TO WELLINGTON
This morning you have the option to swim with dolphins and view killer whale. We then make our way to Picton where we board the Inter-Islander Ferry to Wellington – New Zealand’s capital. Tonight we visit the Courtney District whose café’s and bars are rated as some of New Zealand’s best.
DAY 23: FREE DAY WELLINGTON
The epi-centre of mountain biking in New Zealand is in Wellington due to the natural landscape having an abundance of natural tracks suitable for the beginner right through to the seasoned professional. “Windy Wellington” is also home to some superb wake-boarding, kite-surfing and wind surfing and our learner day packs with full professional instruction will have you shredding in no time!
DAY 24: WELLINGTON TO TONGARIRO
Our accommodation is located inside Tongariro National Park. Not only a special park for the people of New Zealand, it is also unique in the world. It is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site under two categories. It is listed because of its unique, active volcanic attributes and also its special cultural significance. The 17km walk known as the “Tongariro Crossing” is described as one of the best day’s treks in the world!
DAY 25: TONGARIRO TO RAGLAN
Raglan is the surfing capital of New Zealand and has 3 world famous surf breaks: Manu Bay, Whale Bay and The Indicators. Manu Bay, also known as The Point, as it is said to have the longest left hand ride in the world. If surfing is not high on your agenda, Raglan has some stunning geography, and after a short trek down to the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls you will witness a spectacular natural waterfall set against a stunning backdrop.
DAY 26: RAGLAN TO AUCKLAND
We depart Raglan after lunch and head back into Auckland. You can extend your stay in Auckland with discounted accommodation, jump onboard a snow tour during ski season or explore the Bay of Islands via one of our 1 to 3 day tours. The choice is yours |

Whilst HAKA Tours is a true low cost tour option, we have scoured the land to make sure that we provide the best budget accommodation around. We always endeavour to use Qualmark endorsed accommodation providers which means is a stamp of approval for quality and health and safety by the New Zealand Tourism Regulating Body.
Accommodation is either hostel of motel based. The hostels usually sleep 4-8 people whilst the motel venues are double rooms which will be in pairs. We also operate single sex and mixed rooms based on preference.
Furthermore, you will also be based in the city centre to ensure you are in the thick of things at all times! Forget the fustrations of camping in no man's land and getting stressed out with bent tent pegs... |
