Kapishya Hot Springs Lodge |
Wilderness Safaris in Northern Zambia. Hot Springs and Lodge in unspoilt Africa
We have two properties, Kapishya Hot Springs and Buffalo Camp.
Kapishya Hot Springs Lodge is on the Estate of Shiwa Ngandu. This is famed for "The Africa House" which was built by Sir Stewart Gore-Browne in the 1920's. His life and times were written about in the book "The Africa House" by Christina Lamb.
Kapishya is situated on the tranquil Mansha River which is lined with the exotic palms trees. The main feature of the lodge is the mineral free hot springs which are at a seductive 40'C with natural white sand. Ideal for young kids!!!
The lodge has six, comfortable, ensuite, chalets all with 240v electricity. Two of the Chalets are double storied and are overlooking the river. The chalets are all designed using locally made bricks and materials and have splendid views of the magnificent gardens and river
The restaurant boasts some of the best cuisine to be found in Zambia with fresh home grown fruits and vegetables pick daily from the garden.
Many of our clients just come to Kapishya to relax, though there are numerous activities available at the Hot Springs. These include river floats, kayaking, horse riding and excellent bird watching (there are a number of species of birds here that are not found to the South of us) The guided walks through the local communities are something not to be missed as well. Shiwa House is also available for viewing and this is combined with walks along the Shiwa Lake, again an excellent birding area, and game drives. |

Description |
North Luangwa - There are a number of ways to getting in to North Luangwa, there is the main gate on the Western side of the park at Mano Park Headquarters. This is 42 kilometres from the Great north road. The turn off is roughly 60 kilometres from Mpika and 26 kilometres from the Shiwa Ng'andu Estate turn off. There is another two entrances on the eastern boundary of the park. The Northernmost entry on the eastern side is serviced by a pontoon for early season crossing of the Luangwa river. This is for people travelling to or coming from South Luangwa National Park. Please be sure to check Google earth as maps are available with GPS coordinates and waypoint markers. However, the quickest way to get to North Luangwa is by chartering a light aircraft from Lusaka or Mfuwe.
Kapishya Hot Springs - The hot springs are approximately 9 hours drive from Lusaka along the Great North Road. It is advisable to fill up with fuel at any fuel station you pass as fuel is NOT always available! The great North road is in reasonably good condition but there are numerous police and immigration checkpoints so please make sure you have all the correct documentation such as passports and visas. It is also possible to fly into the airstrip at Shiwa Ng'andu which is 19 kilometres from the lodge. GPS coordinates are available on request should you wish to self fly. |
