Desert trekking in Morocco is very popular and often combined with a Bedouin experience. The trekking is generally easy as the camels typically carry all the luggage, and authentic treks with camel trains give you a great way to experience the traditional Bedouin life.
The most popular peak to ascend is Toubkal which is the highest peak in the Atlas mountains and offers stunning views from the top . Marrakesh is the main international airport for those trekking here with routes typically starting from Imlil about 90 minutes drive away. Toubkal is often combined with treks through Berber villages at the foot of the mountain to experience the distinct culture and cuisine of the Berber people.
Those embarking upon Morocco trekking holiday during the winter will find the climate more suitable for desert and coastal walks although Toubkal can still be summited, while in the summer it is best to take to the mountains to avoid the heat.
