Wanaka is a snowboarder’s paradise, offering access to five top ski resorts. The township is smaller and quieter than Queenstown and has a more relaxed feel to it. Wanaka still offers a vast amount of restaurants and shops and some great nightlife along the lakefront all within walking distance of most accommodations. But don’t stay out to late if you want to make the most of your Wanaka snowboarding holidays!

Cardrona ski resort is just 35 minutes down the valley and is a snowboarder’s paradise. With a mix of terrain, wide open beginner and intermediate perfectly groomed runs, off-piste steeps and a world-class terrain park and half pipe. Cardrona really does have something for everyone. You may find this is the resort you end up at most of the time.

Treble Cone is just 45 minutes from Wanaka and is a free-riders heaven. With mainly intermediate and advanced terrain including gullies, chutes, rocks and steeps there is something to be found for even the most adventurous free-rider. If you do head up there make sure you grab a trail map and explore all the way up to the Saddle chair.

The beauty of making Wanaka your base for your snowboard holiday is you still have access to the Queenstown resorts. Coronet and The Remarkables are just over an hour drive away over the crown range. There is another perk to being based in Wanaka, and that is easy access to a small ski field called Ohau. Ohau is usually lacking any crowds and offers some great long groomed runs and a variety of off-piste snowboarding too. If you choose the right weather day, Ohau can easily put on the best show!

Wanaka snowboarding holidays are the perfect destination giving you access to five top ski resorts. The quiet friendly town gives off a welcoming vibe, which makes it the ideal place to ride, relax and enjoy.
