France: Canyoning Holiday in the Verdon Gorge
Canyoning is following the flow of a mountain stream. You see up close the effect that water has on limestone as you jump into pools, slide down channels and abseil over cliffs and waterfalls. This course is not for the faint hearted, your adrenaline levels will be constantly pushed!
On this course we visit a different canyon each day, allowing you to explore the highlights of two separate regions; the canyons of the Verdon and the Maritime Alps which are amongst the most beautiful in France.
Situated inland between Nice and Marseilles, the Verdon Regional park hosts a world renowned climbing area. The Verdon river cuts hundreds of metres deep into a limestone gorge providing a huge variety of climbing routes to be explored (well over 1,000 listed). They range from gentle sport routes to big wall climbs that are either bolted or require traditional protection. Although it is possible to walk in to the majority of routes, part of the experience of climbing here is the abseil in. It is a perfect location for anyone keen on exposure and wanting to push their lead climbing up a grade or two!
