Germany

Across Germany adventure travel comes naturally as the country’s thriving metropolitan city centres are fringed with extensive areas of natural beauty. Also, the German people are known for their reserved charm and friendly attitude to tourists. There are outdoor activities in Germany to suit all skills and sports – just take time to try local food, something overlooked by tourists.

Germany is a federal republic composed of 16 states, and there is a surprising degree of diversity found throughout the country. Travellers looking for outdoor activities in Germany who are expecting a stereotypical or cliched interpretation of Germany will enjoy a much more varied and modern experience.

Travelling through Germany adventure travel opportunities are never that far from your route. At the north of the country there is a shoreline on the Baltic Sea, where you can go sailing or diving. There are skiing and snowboarding resorts nestled in the Alps. And you can trek or bike through the woodland areas of central and western Germany.

The summer tends to be mild, while the winters will descend into chilling temperatures and provide for decent amounts of snow . Rain is likely all year round. The Alpine region is much colder, of course, but outdoor activities in Germany are made easier as much of the country is pleasantly warm during Spring and benefits from well defined seasons.

Germany is an eclectic mix of old-world charm, exquisite countryside and vibrant, modern cities. In Germany adventure travel doesn’t get more challenging than in the rocky Bavarian south with opportunities for extreme winter sports and picturesque alpine views.

If you’re travelling in the winter, it’s probably best to enjoy the Bavarian ski resorts. You can then spend some time in the southern cities enjoying the fine architecture and animated nightlife.

If you’re going for the warmer summer months there are a wider range of outdoor activities in Germany. It’s worth visiting the mild Baltic Sea coastline for a range of watersports. Thrill seekers will also find opportunities for mountain biking, skydiving and rock climbing. And cities such as the cosmopolitan Berlin and historic Frankfurt make a fantastic change of scenery.

There are 16 unique and distinct states waiting for you, each harbouring new experiences, and a culture which that mixes traditional beauty with technological innovation.

Throughout Germany adventure travel is always complemented by cultural attractions: the big cities are home to some of the world’s most stunning architecture and fascinating museums. The colossal, gothic Cologne Cathedral, or Berlin’s parliamentary Reichstag building are joys to behold.

Petrol-heads can find an experience like no other should they brave the 28km Nurburgring racetrack. But if adrenaline is your preferred fuel, there is hang gliding and bungee jumping nearby as well.
