Hike to La Oropéndola Waterfall and Explore the Las Pailas Trails. The Las Pailas area offers a spectacular display of the power of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, the largest and most active in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Here, you’ll encounter fumaroles, geysers, bubbling mud pots, and other remarkable volcanic features unique to this region. Join our bilingual naturalist guide for a 3.5 km circular trek along the Las Pailas trail through tropical dry forest, offering fantastic views of the volcano, its volcanic activity, stunning nature, and plenty of wildlife. Spot over 300 bird species and various animals, including coatis, armadillos, iguanas, and monkeys. After your hike, enjoy a refreshing swim at La Oropéndola Waterfall. From the park entrance, follow a scenic path, including a short walk through the river, leading to the 25-meter waterfall that cascades into a lively turquoise pool in the Blanco River canyon. After a relaxing time at the waterfall, conclude your tour with a return hike to Hacienda Guachipelín. Alternatively, the park and waterfall are easily accessible by hotel transportation (10-minute drive). Please note, the park entrance fee is not included in the tour price.
