The buzzing Turkish coastal city of Bodrum is the place to be for holidaymakers looking for sun, nightlife and culture. Bodrum attracts a varied crowd which includes a growing number of rock climbers. Take a Bodrum rock climbing trip and discover Turkey’s rocks for yourself!
Turkey is not short of mountains, but it is short of rock climbers. Climbing only became established in the country in the 1990s, so it does not see the crowds that other rocky places tend to. There is plenty of opportunity to explore and discover away from the beaten track in Turkey, including around Bodrum.
Bodrum’s best nearby climbing site is at Bafa Golu, an excellent bouldering site. Hard rock boulders stretch down the mountain sides and over its peak. Climbers never get bored at Bafa Golu!
While Bafa Golu offers perfect bouldering, it doesn’t offer anything much else. Head south and east from the city, into the province of Antalya, and you’ll find Turkey’s best climbing.
Geyikbayiri is Turkey’s largest climbing area. It has great infrastructure, with over 750 bolted climbing routes and accommodation right up among the rocks. It has 1.5 km long main limestone crag, with lots of overhangs and slabs. Geyikbayiri was developed as a climbing destination in 2001 – few other travellers make it there.
For great coastal climbing, head to nearby Olympos. This chilled-out backpackers’ resort is home to plenty of routes, including some tempting limestone crags very near the beach, and some good deep water soloing.
Take a Bodrum rock climbing journey and discover the beauty of Turkish climbing. Usse the city as a base, and enjoy outstanding rocks without the crowds.
