Cuba is one of the most tranquil places for sea kayaking in the world. With perfect Caribbean climates, undiscovered picturesque beaches and amazing shipwrecks it’s no surprise kayaking here is taking off. The temperatures of air and water converge at a mean of 26ºC giving Cuba some perfect conditions for kayaking. You will kayak over coral reefs, seeing hundreds of species of fish and dozens of corals and with the history of pirating in the region there are thousands of shipwrecks, many of which are visible through the clear blue waters – so don’t forget your snorkelling gear.

Cuba is a country of contrasts and kayaking conditions will be different depending on where you go. The North Coast offers sand cays and mangroves. While it’s often forgotten that Cuba is more than the main island and that to the south is the fantastic Archipelago de Los Canarreos where hundreds of small island offer perfect conditions for sea kayaking. Kayaking the cayos here offers a great chance to see flamingos, parrots and much marine life.

Cuba isn’t just about sea kayaking however. The country has more rivers than all other Caribbean islands combined. Kayaking here is popular among locals and tourists alike and tour guides are available for those less confident of going solo. One popular destination is Rio Canimar which is a beautiful green-blue river not far from the capital.
