Mauritius is undoubtedly one of the world’s windsurfing hotspots. This island nation in the Indian Ocean is a popular destination with anyone looking for a luxury holiday in the sun. Mauritius offers outstanding conditions for beginners and experts alike. There are flat-water lagoons and powerful waves. The weather is warm all year round, and the wind blows strong for 300 days a year. The best conditions are to be found from May to December, but the cyclone months of January and February are the only ones to avoid.

Le Morne is the centre of Mauritius’ windsurfing scene. It is a narrow peninsula at the south-western tip of the island, dominated by a iconic rock cliff of the same name The peninsula is fringed by beaches on all sides, and protected by coral reefs.

Le Morne is a great destination for windsurfers from beginners to experts. There is a large, flat lagoon with knee-deep water – ideal for beginners and improvers to hone their skills. Further out, the lagoon is deeper and the winds stronger, offering more advanced windsurfers a challenge. And then out beyond the reef, there are waves up to 2m high. There are several good waves spots, offering world-class wave-sailing for those with the skills to handle it.
