A Queenstown snowboarding holiday should be on the radar for all serious boarders. A town that is full of life both in the day and at night makes it the ideal spot for both snowboarding and off snow activities. After the riding is over for the day there is certainly a hustle a bustle in the streets of Queenstown.
Queenstown boosts 3 resorts to choose from a 45-55 minutes drive, each resort offering their own renowned distinctive qualities for snowboarding. Whether you are after somewhere to hike for fresh lines, rolling intermediate terrain or a world class terrain park, being based in Queenstown will give you access to that.
Coronet Peak offers some great beginner and intermediate terrain that can be described as rolling. At just a 35-minutes drive from Queenstown it is the closest resort to go to, with a sealed road all the way to the top.
The Remarkables offers a large wide beginner area and incredible views just 45 minutes from Queenstown. With a slightly higher elevation than Coronet Peak the snow is generally in great condition. They also boost a progressive terrain park, so if jumps and rails are what you after this is a good place to start.
Cardrona is a 55-minute drive ‘over the hill’ (the crown range) and offers incredible beginner and intermediate terrain. With wide open groomer trails it is the place to be to find your legs on your first day. If you are after something a little steeper try arcade chutes. There is some great off-piste riding between each of the three bowls that creates Cardrona ski resort. If rails and jumps are what you after, I can easily say Cardraon has the best terrain park in New Zealand hosting world cup events in both their park and halfpipe.
Once you are done snowboarding for the day or when you decided to take a day off, Queenstown provides an abundance of restaurants and activities. Being New Zealand’s adventure capital and arguably the adventure capital of the world, you name an adrenaline activity and Queenstown is likely to provide it. Bungy jumping, jet boating, canyon swinging and more, a Queenstown snowboarding holiday really does have it all both on and off the snow.
