This adventure is composed for those charged travelers who are ready to get out of their comfort zone and move a lot on foot, by bike, spend a couple of nights under the stars by the fire. All in order to hike around the caldera and peaks and explore all the natural wonders of this mountainous region.
Trekking is a staple of Mount Elgon National Park’s repertoire. Four main trails (Sasa, Sipi, Piswa and Suam) will lead you to either the Wagagai summit or the Sipi waterfalls. The hike lasts from 3 to 7 days depending on the chosen trail and your physical fitness, but overall it is much easier and flatter compared to other mountains in Africa.

All main trails have camp sites located at strategic points along the routes and are provided with water, tent sites and toilets. However, there are alternative trails that allow you to traverse the caldera and visit hot springs lost in the wilderness.
At certain sections of the trails it's more advantageous to ride bikes while traversing rocks, washouts, dirt trails, logging or gravel roads. It combines pleasure of being in the mountains with the health advantages of altitude, significant level of physical exercise and the possibility to cover longer distances. Hot springs, chilly streams, altitudinal gradients of flora, Afro-mountain forests, alpine meadows and mountain terraces will be your companions on a way.
Mount Elgon remains an unexplored region up to these days, freed from the crowds of tourists along the most popular routes, which will facilitate your intimate contemplation of nature and the majesty of the mountains.
