The Canary Islands are blessed with strong trade winds, making them one of the world’s top windsurfing destinations. Consistent winds blow most of the year, with the best winds between May and September. There are both flat water and wave spots a-plenty around the islands: you’re never far from somewhere to windsurf on the Canaries!

Fuerteventura is the most popular island with windsurfers, with several great spots around the island. Fuerteventura’s biggest resort, Corralejo, is home to Flag Beach, a huge stretch of sand with a lagoon for beginners and great riding off shore. Further south, Sotavento hosts beginners and international competitors alike.

On Tenerife, El Medano is the place to head. This hippie haven is also a world-class windsurfing spot, with super-strong winds that challenge even the best of sailors. On Lanzarote, Las Cucharas is the pick of the bunch. In summer, it is a wave-sailors’ paradise, with a flat lagoon for beginners. On Gran Canaria, Bahia Feliz has hosted international competitors, with strong wind, waves and flat water.

The Canary Islands is the place that many of the world’s best windsurfers choose to train. Take a Canary Islands windsurfing holiday and you’ll be in good company. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned expert, you’ll find your perfect spot.
