The main kitesurf location in Sharm el Sheikh is called Nabq bay which looks out into the Gulf of Aqaba. The temperature is anything from 22 – 35+ degrees. So you only need a short wetsuit or Board shorts on an Sharm el Sheikh Kitesurfing holiday. The beach here is quite hard underfoot but is sandy and big enough for safe launching and landing.
The wind here is known as katabatic as the air flows down from the mountains towards sea level creating light wind. This wind is then funnelled between the mainland and Tiran Island increasing its speed. The water stretches for some 400 meters out to sea until it reaches the reef. The vast majority of this is knee to waist deep at low tide. You will find this a flat water paradise with only a small amount of wind chop being created.
There is plenty of accommodation to choose from in Sharm el Sheikh, most of which are all inclusive beach front hotels. Nabq bay, Sharm el Sheikh is a short 30 minute transfer from the airport.
Sharm el Sheikh kitesurfing holidays are possible all year round although the summer months have more consistent wind. The wind blows from force 4 up to force 8 (14mph to 40mph) but be prepared to get up early as the wind is stronger in the morning than in the afternoon. In summer the wind often blows all day so bring a wide range of kite sizes (6m – 12m).
