For a taller woman with equally proportioned feet, boots are always a challenge. A lot of women’s footwear sizing doesn’t come close to my UK9.5s. So I often end up buying men’s.

This summer I tested the Helly Hansen Stalheim boots as part of a women’s hiking gear review. Despite being from the men’s range, I was impressed by how well I could tighten the boot to fit my feet perfectly. So I decided to go for some Helly Hansen winter boots.

The Durango Helly Tech waterproof boots by Helly Hansen are wider than the Stalheim boots. Which for most men I assume is the fine. But I have exceptionally narrow feet, so there was more space than is ideal. The Durango Boot can be tightened to compensate for this, but not with quite the same ease as the Stalheim’s.

Having said this, it is still a great, stylish and comfortable winter boot. They combine the appearance of a high-top trainer with the water resistance and grip of a great hiking boots. Match it with some jeans and it looks perfect for a festive shopping trip around town, but equally, ideal for stomping up an icy hill on a winter walk.

Its max grip is designed to navigate both wet pavements and snowy slopes. So it is a hybrid boot, which bridges the gap between fashionable and practical. Which is perfectly suited to my lifestyle – they’ve provided a firm grip and kept my tootsies warm and dry during this review of the Durango Helly Tech waterproof boots.

The HH Max comfort insole, combined with the padded collar, means whatever you choose to do, you’ll be doing it in comfort. The materials for the lace and lining are 100% recycled as is 30% of the rubber, and with a PFC free DWR treatment they are better for the environment.

Stylish and Practical Waterproof Boots by Helly Hansen

While I wouldn’t wear these out to a nice restaurant, they are stylish in a more casual setting. Looking like trainers rather than hiking boots makes them suited to a trip to the pub, the school run or a shopping around town.

The Durango Helly Tech waterproof boots have kept my feet warm and dry through one of the wettest winters I can remember. And the grip is far better than a pair of sneakers on everything from muddy trails to slippery pavement.

Male, or female with big feet, I’d recommend these boots as they’ve helped me to navigate everything the season has thrown at me. Moreover, functionality hasn’t mean sacrificing style. I wanted practical but stylish, and with these waterproof boots by Helly Hansen I have nailed it this winter.
