A Turkey Kitesurfing holiday is all about exploring the rugged Aegean coastline. Facing west out into the Aegean towards the Greek islands you will find pristine waters and some fantastic conditions.
The best time to visit is through the warmer summer months. Thermal winds increase throughout the day to 20mph and stronger. You will only need board shorts and bikini’s in the height of summer but maybe a short wetsuit in the cooler months.
The main kite spot in Turkey is Gokova. Here you will find most days have some wind with it building throughout the day. The air is squeezed between two steep hillsides which increase the wind speed even further. Dalaman is the nearest airport with just a 45 minute transfer to the beach. Gokova is fairly quiet so it is suitable for families and couples. If you are looking for something a little more lively then Marmaris is only 20 minutes away.
Alcati is another location on the west coast which is good for a Turkey kitesurfing holiday. Again, the wind is forced between two land masses creating an increased wind speed. The closets airport to fly toAlacati is Izmir. From here you will find it is just a 30 minute drive away from the kitesurf spot.
Both locations are great for all skill levels with superb sandy beaches and sea floors. In the morning you wind find the gentle wind is suitable for beginners and intermediates trying new techniques. In the afternoon and in the stronger wind the more experienced riders head out on to the water to show off their skills.
Accommodation is something that is best to book prior to your Turkey kitersurfing holiday as they can become very busy in the summer. However there are a lot of options, some right on the kite spots with options to suit all budgets.
