Sprawling along both sides of a river gorge, Morzine is one of France’s most established ski resorts. The town sits directly at the foot of the slopes, sharing some of them with the higher village of Les Gets. Sitting at the heart of the wider Portes du Soleil ski area, an international series of thirteen linked resorts, a Morzine ski holiday has a distinct advantage of access to other resorts such as Avoriaz, Champery and the aforementioned Les Gets.
Morzine abounds with a traditional alpine charm, characterised by chalet-style buildings and a family feel. The gentle slopes, dedicated kids ski schools and day care make it a great place for family holidays. That being said, there’s enough après-ski action and steep higher slopes for adults to enjoy too.
Getting around in Morzine can sometimes seem a little tricky because the resort is quite large. However, an extensive network free ski buses mean you can usually get where you’re going without too much trouble. Buses link Morzine with the nearby resorts of Les Gets and Avoriaz, which are well worth exploring.
Because of Morzine’s low altitude, snow conditions can occasionally be a problem. However the thirteen linked resorts have over 650 kilometres of runs and 200 lifts, with much of it higher than Morzine’s slopes meaning decent snow is never far away.
Morzine also benefits from some simply stunning views. Thanks to its location along the River Dranse, the scenery is spectacular and really adds to Morzine’s appeal. Looking down on the picturesque village from high up on the slopes is an incredible view.
Despite its altitude Morzine is still definitely the place to come if you want to check out the Portes du Soleil area. Widely regarded as one of the best ski areas in the world, a Morzine ski holiday gives you great access to the Portes du Soleil and comes highly recommended.
