Puerto Rico Wakeboard guide

Puerto Rico has an impressive 300 beaches around its tropical coastline. The island is America’s Caribbean playground, a colourful place where cultures meet. Puerto Rico’s towns are warm and welcoming, but it is the island’s coastline that is its real draw. Sunbathers and watersports fans love Puerto Rico.

Can you make a Puerto Rico wakeboard trip? The island is popular with surfers for its waves and kitesurfers for its wind. But that doesn’t mean its out of bounds for wakeboarders. Puerto Rico has plenty of windy, wavy beaches, but it has plenty of calm ones too.

Wakeboarding is not well-established in Puerto Rico, so if you want to ride from the island’s beaches, you might need to search a little for somewhere to do it. If you have your own board, you should find it easy enough to rent or borrow a speedboat to take you out. Watersports operators in some of the bigger resorts and towns will offer wakeboarding hire.

The capital of San Juan is one of the best places on the island to wakeboard. The water can get choppy in places, but there are some nice calm spots too, especially on Isla Verde and Ocean Park beaches. The northern coast is the island’s main surfing area, but wakebaorders can head to Crash Boat Beach. This beach has a protected bay that is usually glassy calm.

Take a Puerto Rico wakeboard trip and explore this fascinating island from the water. Go between December and May for storm-free seas, with temperatures in the high twenties. Ride your board, chill out on the sand and enjoy the island’s stress-free, happy vibe…
