The tiny Principality of Andorra may be small, but it offers three of the best skiing resorts in the Pyrenees. Nestled between France and Spain and located high in the mountains, Andorra has long been a ski destination of choice. With great resorts to suit all budgets and noted for their ski schools, alongside off piste skiing challenges for the more experienced, it’s easy to see Andorra skiing is so popular.
Andorra’s three main ski resorts are Soldeu, Pas de la Casa and Arinsal. Unlike with larger ski areas it doesn’t matter which resort you choose for skiing opportunities here as all are only a short distance apart and linked as the Grandvalira ski area. Modern facilities including the ski lifts mean you can take your mind of the practicalities and enjoy the down hills.
Soldeu is the most popular of the three resorts, largely due to the world class reputation of the ski school here. Beginners aren’t the only ones catered for by this resort however as the resort has great snow reliability for its location, and there’s a lot of work put into maintaining the slopes. There’s several blacks for experts, one particularly deserving of its rating. Most experienced skiers however prefer the off-piste here which is great when snowfall is adequate.
Pasa de la Casa is located just a few miles to the South East of Soldeu and is the best location for budget skiing in Andorra. The low cost doesn’t mean a lesser experience however, as the entire Grandvalira ski area is easily accessible.
For those who prefer a more traditional feel Arinsal is the best of the resorts, and is also a great families. With wide slopes for beginners and great childcare facilities for families, this resort increasing in popularity. It’s also invested a lot in its lift system meaning less queuing than other resorts.
