Guide to Borovets skiing holidays

Borovets is Bulgaria’s oldest ski resort, having attracted skiers since its creation in 1896. The resort was built as a playground for the Bulgarian Royal Family, and has since grown to become a modern, well-equipped ski resort. Take a Borovets ski holiday and discover skiing beyond the Alps…

Borovets has 58 km of piste, spread over three ski areas. These are not lift-linked, but buses and horse drawn carriage can ferry you between – also the distance is not too far to walk. Bor0vets recently upgraded all its drag lifts to 4 man chairs, the only drags are now in the nursery slopes.

The resort caters well for beginners and intermediates. Beginners have a choice of nursery slopes and a good choice of easy blues to get their confidence up. Over half the resort’s runs are red, so intermediates can find a challenge. Experts might struggle a little to keep themselves occupied, with just a handful of black runs. That said, the black runs regularly host international competitions so are decent blacks.

Freestyle skiers will love the 520m long snow park which is the biggest East of the Alps and serviced by it’s own lift. There is a lot of off piste terrain available which you will need a guide to enjoy plus there is fun to be had off-piste through the trees.

The resort lies at 1390m, with the highest point at 2600m. The season can start late here so if you go in December or early January, you might find not all runs are open. At the same time, the best snow is often to be found in April, when the Alps are melting fast.

Take a Borovets ski holiday and discover an increasingly modern ski resort with the highest slopes in Eastern Europe. Off the slopes, enjoy affordable accommodation, tasty Bulgarian food and a good choice of après-ski bars.
