What can you say about Abu Dhabi apart from wow! Visually it must be one of the most exciting places on earth, the scale of the splendour is magnificent, the opulence almost incomprehensible, and the modern architecture definitely sets the bar at a whole new level.

With near all year round sunshine, little rainfall, and a winter temperature that hovers around 24ºC you can forget about bring the winter woollies. Packing a light jacket can be a good idea as the air conditioning can often be set to very cool.

Throughout the Emirates the attitudes toward dress are reasonably liberal but a little respect for local customs is always advised especially if visiting government offices or religious monuments At times like that leaving the Lycra in the hotel is a good idea!

You don’t need to enter the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge to have a great time, but if you’re lucky enough to be there when it is being run you may get to see some amazing athletes in action.

It’ll pay to carefully research your Abu Dhabi mountain biking holiday as the area is mainly flat and sandy so finding good riding could see you travelling North towards Oman and through the smaller Emirates to find some mountainous and rocky trails. With three good bike shops in the region you should be able to rely on sound local knowledge to establish the best and safest places to ride.

Sir Bani Yas Island is located 250 kilometres off the shore of Abu Dhabi and a short 30 minute flight will see you whisked to a desert island paradise. Here you can MTB with an abundance of wildlife such as giraffes, cheetahs, gazelle, and elands. You can bring your own bike, or rent one on your arrival.

Mountain Biking in Abu Dhabi is not the most established but its a great place to visit and get a few rides in.
