Scuba centres are starting to open up on Angola’s coast, although they are still few and far between. Most divers head to the coastal capital city of Luanda, with dive trip starting from there to dive sites all along the country’s coast.

Near Luanda is Benguela, a beach-side fishing town with plenty of dive options. There are several beaches nearby, with a good choice of dive sites. The coast is made up of islets and inlets, with plenty for divers to explore. At the other end of the country, the Namibe Peninsula throws up several nice dive sites and some stunning beaches: perfect for chilling out on after a dive.

Angola’s marine life is colourful and interesting, and generally plentiful. Angola is still an off-the-beaten-track destination, so you don’t need to worry about hordes of other divers disturbing the fish before you get there. Keep an eye out for manta rays, sunfish and sharks.

An Angola scuba diving trip offers much. It is a fantastic way to explore this often-overlooked country and its often-deserted coast. You’ll have the thrill of knowing that you were among the first to dive from Angolan shores, and you’ll get to see some pretty impressive marine life, too.
