Dakhla lies at the end of a 30 km long small spit of land, where the Sahara meets the Atlantic. It is a traditional Moroccan desert town, with colourful souks and lots of atmosphere. Dakhla also has plenty of wind and water, with a calm lagoon on the eastern side and open ocean breakers on the western side. Take a Dakhla kitesurfing trip and enjoy the best of all worlds.
Dakhla’s strong year-round winds make it a very safe bet for kitesurfers. No waiting for the wind to pick up here: it’s at its best from July to September, but even in the slower winter months, it’s good.
The lagoon is flat and ideal for beginners and speed-lovers. There are kitesurf schools and hire shops all around the lagoon, so you’ll have no difficulty getting out on the water. Beginners will love the lagoon and its easy riding, and the more advanced will love the combination of consistent wind and flat water.
Wave riders need to head out to the ocean side, where waves up to 4m are common. Even on less windy days, there is plenty of swell to enjoy. While Dakhla’s reputation in the kitesurf world is growing, there is still plenty of space on its breaks.
It is worth exploring the area around Dakhla – there are good spots up and down the coast, especially for wave riders. Point d’Lor and Foum el Bouir are particular favourites, and often empty. Take your gear, a spirit of adventure and ride the waves!
A Dakhla kitesurfing holiday is a chance to see Morocco’s desert wilderness from the ocean. Consistent wind means it won’t let you down. What more do you need to know?
