Across the European continent, from Portugal to Bulgaria, as far south as Malta and as far north as Finland, there are incredible opportunities for paragliding. Wherever there’s a hill steep enough or a mountain tall enough, you’ll find paragliders. Which means there is a massive scope for Europe paragliding holidays.

If you’re a beginner then almost all countries require basic certification, following ten days tuition, before you can legally fly solo. But the good news is that wherever you find paragliders, you’ll usually find a paragliding school where you can learn the ropes.

Top Europe paragliding countries

With sites in almost every single country, you’re certainly not short of choice on Europe paragliding holidays. Although the sport is growing rapidly, it is more established in some countries than others.

With just under a thousand recognised sites in France, a shade under 800 in Germany, and 500 in Italy, as well as 76, 54 and 86 paragliding clubs respectively, these three are the powerhouses of European paragliding. Austria, Spain, the UK and Greece all also have several hundred launch spots, as well as numerous clubs and pro riders.

Cost of Europe paragliding holidays

Depending on where you are based, the cost of covering the basics will vary. Week long beginner courses in France start at around £700 (€800) but you can find cheaper in some of the Eastern European destinations. Of course, you will need to weigh up the cost of tuition with transport costs and ease of access.

If you are an experienced glider with your own equipment, then you’re really only looking at transportation costs throughout Europe. Some airlines like BA offer free carriage of sports equipment but on most budget carriers there will be a surcharge. Alternatively, you can hire equipment from schools at your destination.
