Guide to Europe scuba diving holidays

A Europe scuba diving trip offers the opportunity to dive in a huge range of underwater habitats. From the sub-tropical waters of the southern Mediterranean, to polar ice diving in the Arctic Circle: diving in Europe can be anything you want it to be.

The warmer waters of southern Europe are the most popular with divers, especially beginners. There is good diving to be had across the Mediterranean, with diving schools in most beach resorts.

Greece and Turkey have some of the clearest waters and best diving in southern Europe. Turkey’s Marmaris is especially popular, with several wrecks. Nearby Cyprus has the famous Zenobia wreck, and is a turtle breeding site. France and Spain also offer some good sites, although visibility can be a problem.

Europe’s southernmost diving is to be had at the Canary Islands, which have some really spectacular underwater volcanic rock formations.

At the other extreme, you can dive into the chilly Europe’s chilly northern waters. Unforgettable polar diving is on offer in Norway, where you can dive with whales and explore the incredible world under the ice. In the Baltic Sea, you can dive a different wreck every day for weeks. And in Scotland’s Hebrides, you’ll find some stunning, largely unexplored reefs, as well as seals, dolphins and sharks!
Away from the sea, there is some interesting freshwater diving in some of the Alpine lakes, with clear, clean water and plenty of fish. Austria’s Lake Toplitz is a favourite with divers looking to explore World War Two relics – the Nazis dumped secret cargo there at the end of the war.

Europe’s seas and lakes offer hugely varied opportunities for diving. Take a Europe scuba diving trip and explore the continent’s ever-fascinating underwater world.
