White water on Jordan River

The Jordan River is the hotspot for rafting in Israel. It rises in the mountains of Lebanon and flows down through the Jordan Rift Valley and into the Dead Sea.

White water rafters and kayakers flock to the town of Kfar Blum, a kibbutz close to the Lebanese border, north of the Sea of Galilee. This is the Hula Valley, a rich, green region of forests, canyons and waterfalls.

Rafting down the Jordan is fun and often surprising. Calm sections of water suddenly turn to rapids, with some sharp drop-offs to negotiate, as well as some gentler sections. The river is narrow and bubbly, and at its best for most during summer.

The water levels drop in the autumn along with the temperatures. In spring, they swell with meltwater, and negotiating the white water on Jordan River can be a real challenge.

Rafting in Israel is a wonderful way to see a side of the country that the news channels don’t report. You’ll share the river with foreigners and locals alike, meet everyone from kibbutzniks to off-duty soldiers, and enjoy a ride through some stunning countryside. And if you are used to rafting in colder climates, you’ll love the warmth of the Jordan.

An Israel rafting trip is fun, exciting and a great way to explore this fascinating country. Get off the main tourist trail and do something different by exploring the white water on Jordan River.
