Mauritius is a tropical island paradise that the holiday brochures drool over. But Mauritius is not just about relaxing on the beach and drinking cocktails. Take a Mauritius paragliding trip and see this incredible island from the air.

Mauritius lies in the Indian Ocean, about 2000 km from continental Africa. The island is understandably popular with paragliders, who get to fly off its rocky cliffs and jungle-covered mountains, over sugar cane fields and colourful little villages, and down to its white-sand, palm-fringed beaches.

There are paragliding sites all over the island. Take-off points are mainly from the mountain ranges in the north, south-east and west of the island. Rocky peaks climb out of the jungle, with views all the way to the sea. Flyers will often have to put up with a bit of walking to get up to the launch, but it’s more than worth it, and part of the fun!

You’ll find a popular site just outside the village of Pamplemousses, near the capital Saint Louis. It’s a big attraction for cross-country flyers, who fly over the mountains and then back again. There are similar sites around the island. Coastal paragliding is also on offer, and ideal for beginners wanting to take tandem flights. Or try the Black Gorges National Park to the south for a really wild experience!

A Mauritius paragliding trip is an experience to remember. The island is one of the world’s top luxury travel destinations, and also one of its most unusual. Its varied landscape and picture-postcard views make it the perfect place to fly.
