Guide to Morocco kiteboarding holidays

A Morocco Kitesurfing holiday is an absolute delight with so many beaches to choose from. Year round sunshine makes it an ideal location for a quick getaway, along with it being just a 3 hour flight from the UK. Any trip to Moroccan will feel like an adventure due to visiting a different culture and experiencing a variety of landscapes to discover.

It is due to the vast amount of beaches on offer facing the Atlantic that make this a perfect location for all levels of rider. It is best to travel here during the UK Spring and Autumn seasons. This is due to the surprisingly cold temperatures in the winter and scorching heat in the summer in Morocco.

The wind builds throughout the day here and is at its strongest late in the afternoon. If you are inexperienced then try and get up and get out early between 10am and midday. It is at this time that the winds are 15 – 20mph. For those that are more experienced why not stay out on the water and watch the sun go down over the horizon with 20+mph winds. This is quite magical.

The two main spots most frequented by kitesurfers are Essaouira and Dhakla. Essaouira is the best spot to head to for some waves. You will kitesurf directly on the Atlantic and the swell which rolls in here can sometimes be of a good height and structure. The Dhakla lagoon is a superb 14km flat water lagoon which is possibly one of the best locations in the world for freestyle and learning.

When travelling here try and get transfers included in the package. Although the transport here is actually quite good with frequent buses to the kite spots, you probably don’t need the extra bit of culture after a 3 hour flight. Essaouira has the most vibrancy, whilst Dhakla is quite remote but very laid back.
