A Slovenia paragliding trip will take you to one of Europe’s best paragliding destinations. Slovenia’s mountains offer clear air, great thermals and stunning views over unspoilt countryside. Slovenia’s small size means that from the air, you may well catch a glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea. That’s got to be worth the trip…
Slovenia lies between Italy, Austria and Croatia. Paragliders generally head to the Julian Alps, the tail end of the larger Alps range, running along the country’s borders with Italy and Austria. Those with the skills for cross-country flying will find themselves skipping over borders when flying in Slovenia. It’s a great place to fly if you’d like to make Europe feel very small!
Beginners will love Slovenia as much as the cross-country experts. The mountains are on a smaller scale to those further west, meaning you get all the views with easier, gentler conditions and therefore smoother rides. On a tandem flight, you’ll be able to just sit back and enjoy.
Paragliders (and other adventure sports enthusiasts) have a good choice of places to base themselves in Slovenia. Bovec, near the Italian border, is popular. A winter ski resort, the town becomes an adventure hub in summer, with plenty of paragliding operators around. It lies on the River Soca, with its famously emerald green waters.
A flight down the Soca Valley is definitely worth making. Further west, Bled is a good option. You’ll stay on the shores of one of Europe’s most picturesque lakes. Bohinj is another popular lakeside town, with a wild, rugged feel. The lake lies in a beautiful valley surrounded by snow-capped peaks: the perfect backdrop.
Take a Slovenia paragliding holiday and discover a part of the Alps you’ll want to return to again, and again.
