Slovenia is often overlooked in favour of larger neighbours including Italy and Croatia. But this Central European country deserves more attention. It’s a fantastic destination for adventure sports of all kinds – including windsurfing. Slovenia windsurfing holidays can combine a visit to it’s small – but lovely – Mediterranean coast, with the stunning mountain lakes Slovenia has to offer.

Slovenia’s coastline is a small 26-mile long strip packed with beaches and attractive coastal towns. Its relatively calm and warm waters are great for beginners, but there are some good spots to interest the more experienced too.

Izola is the best spot on the Slovenian coast. It is an attractive medieval town that has become something of a centre for Slovenian watersports. In spring and autumn winds can get as high as 35 knots, although they are usually a little more gentle than that. The annual summer surf festival helps keep the town busy with windsurfers and it’s easy to find hire gear and lessons.

Slovenia’s mountain lakes are a fantastic playground for those who like to get out on the water. Carved by ancient glaciers and surrounded by snow-capped peaks, they offer great flat-water conditions. Wind speeds vary, but are often in the twenties or higher. Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj are among the largest and biggest lakes in Slovenia. Both are well set-up for windsurfing, with gear hire and lessons on hand.

Slovenia windsurfing holidays will help you discover this stunning country’s lakes and its beaches. Once you’ve been to Slovenia, you’ll find it hard not to go back.
