Guide to Krabi windsurfing holidays

Krabi is one of Thailand’s most popular and attractive beach destinations. And that’s saying something! Krabi offers more than just great beaches. Limestone cliffs, mangrove swamps and a quirky, friendly feel are all part of the Krabi formula. Take a Krabi windsurfing trip and you’ll discover that it also offers some good wind.

Krabi’s coastline includes some of Thailand’s best-known beaches and islands, including Railay Beach, Koh Lanta and Phi Phi. Wherever you go in Krabi, you’ll find white sand, clear water and palm trees.

Watersports operators can be found all around the more populated beaches in Krabi, often based in hotels. While you won’t find world-class conditions, Krabi is a great place to learn to windsurf, improve your skills and have some fun.

If you are after waves, the monsoon season, from April to November, can bring some impressive ones. Krabi lies on Thailand’s western coast, which is less protected and wilder than the calmer eastern coast. At any time of year, though, you should be able to find some easier waters in some of Krabi’s calmer bays.

The island of Koh Lanta is one of the best places in Krabi for windsurfing. When the wind gets up, so do the waves, but there are enough spots around that everyone should be able to find one to suit them.

Near Krabi Town, Ao Nang Bay is a popular and busy traveller spot, with resaonable windsurfing conditions. Further out into the sea, Phi Phi has some nice waves and flat water.

Take a Krabi windsurfing trip and see another side to Thailand’s beaches. Sunbathing under a palm tree is alright, but you need a trip out onto the water to really get to know the place.
