Much of the Swiss mountains are accessible by train. The train infrastructure is one of the most efficient and expansive in the world meaning you can reach ski resorts in a more eco friendly way. Either hop on the Eurostar, or fly to Geneva or Zurich and jump on a train.
Ski resorts in Switzerland are huge even by Europe’s standards. Make sure you are in shape as elevations are high and pistes are steep. Europe’s top riders call Laax, Davos and St. Moritz their home and the half pipes and parks are considered to be some of the best in the world.

Resorts are close together, so rather than choosing one resort you may want to stay mobile. Travel is easy due to Switzerland’s efficient train and bus system which is economical for solo travellers. If travelling with a group of friends it is cheaper to rent a car.
Many of the less well known resorts are well worth a visit. Check out Lenk Simmental for 130km of piste and 1000m vertical or the Arosa-Lenzerheide ski area for another 100 km of runs to enjoy.
Accommodation for Switzerland snowboarding holidays is not cheap, 5 star and expensive 4 stars are plentiful and easy to find. For those on a budget you can find clean youth hostels in cities and at resorts.
Bed and breakfasts are also a less expensive option but still pricey in comparison to France, Italy and Austria. If you are really stuck, call the local tourist office as they act as the booking agent for all local accommodation.
You can fly into Switzerland through Zurich and Geneva on most major airlines. If going to resorts in the southwest, fly into Geneva. Fly into Zurich if going to resorts in the east such as Laax, Davos or St. Moritz.
Tips for snowboarding in Switzerland
- Most Swiss businesses close between 12 pm and 2 pm so plan ahead if you want to save money with a supermarket lunch.
- Half the country speaks German and the other half French – plus a small area Italian – so it’s useful to know a bit of each.
- The local tourist offices are very helpful and act as booking agents.
- Switzerland is not part of the EU and does not use the Euro
- At Geneva airport they have oversize luggage and ski luggage – snowboards have been known to come out in either.
