Road trip from Tibet to Nepal
Unlike some other highways in the region, the road between Lhasa and Kathmandu is in relatively good condition. Although parts of the Nepalese section can be a little rough and ready, it is mostly easy going.
If you begin in Lhasa, take the time to appreciate and explore this unique city. Your guide will arrange for you to see the main sights, and experience some unique Tibetan culture.
From Lhasa, the road leads you through some stunning mountain passes. You then follow the shore of Lake Yamdrok Tso to the town of Gyantse.
From Gyantse, the Friendship Highway continues on through the world’s highest national park, named appropriately after Mount Everest. Here you’ll get to see some of the best views in the Himalayas.
You can trek or drive to the Tibetan Everest Base Camp, before continuing down scenic tracks to the Nepalese border. Once formalities are complete, it’s only a short drive onto Kathmandu and the end of your journey.
