Oldest dropzone in the USA: Jump Town

Why jump at Jump Town? For one, it’s one of the world’s most unique skydiving operations. Jump Town Skydiving boasts some serious historical significance: it was America’s very first commercial skydiving location making it the oldest dropzone in the USA.

Secondly, and very uniquely, the DZ is more of a community effort than it is a cash cow. It’s operated by the Massachusetts Sport Parachute Club, a not-for-profit organization that, according to its charter, ‘exists solely for the promotion and enjoyment of skydiving and sport parachuting’. There’s a nice set of side effects to this phenomenon,  including unusual friendliness and professionalism.

Experienced-jumper friendly?

Very much so. Jump Town hosts lots of events year-round, and it offers visiting sport skydivers a long list of facilities and amenities: classrooms, team rooms, showers, indoor packing space, an on-DZ cafe, Wi-Fi, lounge areas and a skydiving gear shop that also deals in rentals. Jump Town staffs organizers for the RW and freefly disciplines, and the dropzone community includes plenty of CRW and wingsuit jumpers. These things make Jump Town a great place to learn to skydive.
