Osprey Rolling Transporter 120 review

As an adventure travel journalist, I do spend a lot of time travelling to different destinations. Sometimes travelling overland between two or three press trips back to back. I have also embarked on road trips, driving through the Alps or the Pyrenees. I know, it is a hard life!

With this is mind I need a big versatile wheelie bag. The Osprey Rolling Transporter 120 is rather large, but without looking cumbersome, and has plenty of luggage room. I could easily pack a weeks’ worth of clothes and gear for adventure sports, plus a small mountain goat (believe me, from experience this is not advisable!).

I also really like the mesh pockets on the inside. This is a common feature with Osprey bags and is ideal for storing bathroom essentials. There is also a handy pocket on the top which can give quick access to passports and documents.

It is worth noting in this Osprey Rolling Transporter 120 review that the zip for the main compartment is on the side. This allows the bag to be used like a suitcase, so ideal for air travel. But, it does have grab handles on the side and top, like a duffel bag, so can be bunged in the back of a car for a road trip.

Considering its built for durability this big versatile wheelie bag it reasonably light. Not the lightest on the market, but weighing in at only 3.85Kg it is hardly a heavyweight.

Big versatile wheelie bag gets tough in rough!

This bag is built to be hard wearing and durable. The body of the Osprey Rolling Transporter 120 is made from very tough, waterproof, and weather resistant TPU laminated nylon. Ideal for slinging in and out the back of car boots on those road trips in the Alps.

The Achilles heel for a lot of bags is that they may be made from tough material, but the bag let down is the wheels. Under a lot of pressure the wheels can buckle or even break off completely. This is not the case (pardon the pun!) with the Osprey Rolling Transporter 120.

The extra large polyurethane wheels combined with a chassis made from ABS polymer materials makes sure it can handle any terrain without problem (I know, that last part sounds like a sound bite from a Land Rover advert!). The bag can easily be wheeled around with a sturdy retractable handle.

Big versatile wheelie bag: Conclusion

The Osprey Rolling Transporter is great for not only those dog-eared seasoned travellers, but also ideal for use as holiday luggage on flights. It is a true hybrid design that incorporates the best bits of being a suitcase and a large duffel bag.

The duffel barrel style shape means that you can fit a hell of a lot of luggage in it – 120 Litres worth to be precise! But, the design is pleasing enough to be used as a suitcase.

Another well thought out, durable and well designed bag by Osprey. At £240 it may be on the pricey side but you do get what you pay for.

I hope you found this Osprey Rolling Transporter 120 review useful. You can purchase it from many retailers, or direct from Osprey: www.ospreyeurope.com
