Review of Saxx underpants: Best underwear for men?

Last year I conducted a comprehensive test of 31 pairs of undies from various brands to find the best for sports and adventure. My conclusion was the best underwear for men are made by Saxx. So I decided to test their full range and to write a more detailed review of Saxx underpants.

Review of Saxx underpants Best underwear for men

Best underwear for men

In case you missed it I spent many months testing different underwear. Tests included running, walking, squats, lunges and star jumps plus many days of wear. You can read all about how I tested the undies and the final results in my active underwear review.

With an impressive 40 points out of 45 Saxx Kinetic topped the charts ahead of six other pairs of underpants in equal second on 39 points. This group of runners up also included the Saxx Black Sheep.

The Saxx Vibe everyday boxer scored 37 points. Which considering I was testing underwear for sports was very impressive. To put it in perspective the lowest score was 9/45 for standard boxers from a major retailer.

The secret to Saxx underpants success is their patented BallPark Pouch™ which offers friction-free support for your crown jewels. But it’s not just supportive, the pouch helps stop sweaty balls and sticky inner thighs.

Review of Saxx underpants the technology behind the best underwear for men

It may sound a weird concept but when you are wearing Saxx underpants you don’t notice the pouch. But you certainly appreciate the extra comfort and support. The Saxx undies also have 3D fit which takes muscles into account when considering fit. Furthermore they have flat out seams for chafe free comfort.

My initial review of Saxx underpants only covered three of their varieties. So to confirm if they are the best underwear for men, I decided to test the rest of the range.

Review of Saxx underpants

Below is a review of every Saxx product I have tested. Looking ahead if I get any more I will add them to the list:

My Saxx Kinetic Boxer review

Ranked as the best underwear for men in my original review of Saxx underpants, the Kinetic Boxer is perfect for sport and adventure. They are amazingly comfy, offer great moisture wicking, no restriction of movement, good support and they stay in place no matter what you do.

Of course the innovative ball pouch that cups your gear and keeps your balls away from your legs is a star of the show. It stops sweaty balls and adds really specific support, so although overall they feel less supportive than some other underpants, there is extra support where you really need it.

But the Kinetic Boxer is much more than this innovation. They are exceptionally comfortable for everything from snowboarding to slobbing around and working to walking all day. Simply the best undies I have ever worn.

My Kinetic Run 2-in-1 Short review

Not really a review of Saxx underpants but of their 2-in-1 shorts. But as far as I am concerned combining the best underwear for men with shorts is pure genius.  Having been running in them a couple of times and had a few crossfit sessions wearing them, they are now my goto shorts for sweaty activities.

Most 2-in-1 shorts start with the outer layer and have ‘underpants’ added to them. This has lead some uncomfortable shorts that I have ended up butchering to remove the underwear. But Saxx have built the shorts around the already excellent Kinetic underwear. The result is the most comfortable 2-in-1 shorts I have ever worn.

The Kinetic underwear within the shorts are just as comfy as the underwear is on it’s own. The bonus is that with pants integrated into shorts there is no bungling up of layers, less restriction of movement and one less thing to remember in your kit bag.

What Saxx say about the Blacksheep Performance Boxer

Don’t be the black sheep when it comes to any-weather comfort. Warmth, moisture control, temperature regulation, anti-microbial performance — they all happen naturally with these moisture-wicking merino wool boxer briefs. Wool is that damn good.

Saxx Blacksheep Performance Boxer review

The Blacksheep came equal second in my original review of Saxx underpants and those from other brands. They were also the top ranking merino wool pants. If you are looking for a natural fibre in my opinion these are the best underwear for men, as they feel warm and soft to touch but still have great technical qualities.

Merino wool is often used in ski base layers as it’s warm but offers great wicking to keep you dry – so they are ideal for cold weather. The ball pouch is again very comfortable, offers great support where you need it all without restricting your movement.

Overall the Blacksheep feel snug but not tight. They stay in place really well as you move and were great when I wore them snowboarding. In my opinion, they are the best underwear for men who are into winter sports and cold weather activities.

Saxx Blacksheep Tight review

The Blacksheep were the top ranking merino wool undies in my original review of Saxx underpants, so I was very keen to test the Blacksheep tights as ski baselayers. Merino is the baselayer material of choice for snowsports as it is warm, wicking and doesn’t hold odour.

In all but warm conditions I wear long baselayers under my snowboard trousers which with minimal insulation. So the Blacksheep tights have been extensively tested on the slopes. They feel snug but not tight and the pouch does the same excellent job at keeping your gear supported and sweat free.

When you pull them on they are warm and soft, and provide a great layer of insulation even in cold temperatures. To test the odour resistant qualities I wore them for three consecutive days of snowboarding. At the end of my test they still did not smell so I could have worn them for longer – don’t worry mum I put them in the wash at this point.

The only downside for me is I prefer 3/4 length baselayers as I don’t like them to be tucked in my boots. But the Blacksheep tights are loose enough to fold up around my knee. Overall they would be great tights to wear for any cold weather activities either on their own or as a baselayer.

Saxx Vibe Everyday Boxer review

The Vibe are billed as an everyday boxer. But I found they are excellent for general adventures and in my original review of Saxx underpants they were only three points from top spot. The material is softer, but not as good at wicking moisture as other Saxx undies, meaning the Vibe are not quite as good for sport as others in the range.

But in my opinion they are the best underwear for men if you are looking for everyday undies. They are super comfortable, high quality underpants that offer good value. Plus the Vibe come in a large range of colours meaning you can choose a style that suits you and still have the excellent BallPark Pouch™.

Saxx Fuse Long

Price: £25
Materials: 90% polyester / 10% spandex

What Saxx say about the Fuse Long

Fuse is engineered for everyday, but can bust a move when adventure calls. The fabric wicks sweat like there’s no tomorrow – including the soft jaquard waistband. Digital printing showcases seasonal patterns in photographic detail.

Saxx Fuse Long review

For me the Fuse perfectly straddle the barrier between every day and sport pants. They are super comfortable but offer good support and excellent wicking. From sitting in the office, to climbing a mountain they really are the jack-of-all-trades of underpants.

The fuse come in normal and long length in a range of funky styles, for those that don’t like plain underwear. For this review of Saxx underpants I tried the long version which have 9 inch legs, which wouldn’t ruck even if you put them on a rugby pitch. And with the lovely ballpark pouch they won’t maul your gear either!

Probably the best underwear for men if you want funky designs that are both great for everyday use and sport.

Saxx Ultra Brief

What Saxx say about the Ultra Brief

Cousin to our best-selling Vibe, but in a more relaxed fit, this everyday boxer brief is made from moisture-wicking, breathable viscose fabric that delivers comfort for red-eye flights and all-day meetings.

Saxx Ultra Brief review

The Ultra are the most relaxed undies in this review of Saxx Underpants. They are soft and comfortable with no seams and a quality waistband. Initially I thought ‘what’s the point of the BallPark Pouch as they are briefs?’. However, as with the boxers the pouch makes a huge difference to all day comfort, adds support where you need it and helps keep sweaty nads at bay.

The Ultra don’t provide as much support as the sportier Saxx underpants, and although the material is wicking it is not quite as good as their other materials. Although they are not made for sport, these briefs are still great for action and adventure. I wouldn’t wear them to the gym, but if you end up hiking around a hot city all day then they will do a great job of keeping you comfortable.

Best underwear for men?

Having now tried and tested seven different varieties of Saxx undies I am even more in love with their underpants. The ballpark pouch makes a revolutionary difference, providing specific support and comfort while keeping your balls away from you legs.

Review of Saxx underpants Best underwear for men

But Saxx underwear are so much more than the ballpark pouch. The materials used are top quality, from the softer, less wicking everyday undies to the sportier varieties they are all soft, seam free and come in a 3D fit.

Having now tested both long boxers and briefs from the range, I am confident that if involved in my original testing, Saxx would have romped home top of all three categories: boxers, long boxers and briefs. So to conclude this review of Saxx underpants, I’d say they are the best underwear for men.
