The glamorous city of Marbella draws visitors from across Europe to its golden beaches and upscale nightlife. But life in Marbella is about more than just topping up the tan and the cocktail glass. The city lies on the warm waters of the Mediterranean, making it easy to take a Marbella windsurfing trip.
Marbella, and the rest of the Costa del Sol, is a fantastic place for beginners to learn to windsurf. Winds are generally good, but not as super strong as they are further west at Tarifa, Spain’s most popular windsurfing spot. Those with a little experience will find more challenging conditions when the wind gets up, and some chop and swell too.
Marbella has numerous beaches, and you can windsurf from most of them. It’s easy to find local operators offering hire and lessons in the city. Conditions can be variable, but you should be able to sail somewhere, most days.
If you tired of Marbella, head out along the coast and explore. Immediately around Marbella, you’ll find similar conditions to those off the city’s beaches. If you’re after something stronger and tougher, think about heading east to Almeria. The city offers wind and waves aplenty, and is little known to tourists. If you’re sick of crowded beaches and busy water, this is a great place to go.
For really world class sailing, head the short distance west to Tarifa. It’s no place for beginners, but those who can handle winds up to 40 knots will love this spot on the Straits of Gibraltar.
Take a Marbella windsurfing trip and you’ll get to stay in one of Europe’s most jet-set cities, surrounded by wind and water. What’s not to like about that?
