Spain windsurfing holidays: Mainland

On the mainland the most popular resort for windsurfing in Spain is Tarifa in Andalusia. Located at the Southern tip of the mainland where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean the winds rush through the Straights of Gibraltar providing year round wind.

The town offers great facilities for professionals and beginners alike. Windsurfers from across Europe head here for the Levante and Poniente winds which often reach 40 knots.

Practically the whole of the Spanish coast has winds that allow windsurfing. Those on the North East coast of Spain should head to the Bay of Roses in Costa Brava which has some great windsurfing schools.

It’s also great for advanced windsurfers, so a good place to introduce other family members to the sport while you tear up and down the coast. Even in Barcelona there is a thriving windsurfing scene.

Windsurfing holidays in Spain: Islands

The other major destination for windsurfing is the Canary Islands. Each of the islands here have their own facilities and they all experience strong Atlantic winds. For year round Spain windsurfing holidays the Canary Islands are well worth a visit.

In Fuerteventura the world windsurfing championships taking place here each July on Sotavento beach. Flag beach in Corralejo is also a great destination for all levels of windsurfer. El Medano in Tenerife is also very popular with windsurfers.

The Balearic islands are also good for windsurfing such as the Majorcan resort of Puerto Pollensa. The Balearic Islands tend to have less waves than other parts of Spain so perfect for those who prefer flat windsurfing.
