France overland holidays & tours

From its wild northern coasts, to the glitzy resorts of the Mediterranean; from the clear air of the Alps, to the cobbled streets of Paris: a France overland trip will be as varied as it is fun. The country is a great place for travellers to spread their wings. It has plenty of space, and more things to see and do than you’ll ever hope to cover in one trip.

From the north, an expedition through Normandy and Brittany is a must. Enjoy windswept beaches backed by dunes, quaint fishing villages and buzzing, friendly resort towns. You’ll find a strong sense of place and tradition, combined with a modern outlook.

Paris is always a fascinating place to visit, with plenty of history and culture to explore. If you want a break from the road, try hiring a canal boat: you can travel all the way from Paris down to the Mediterranean.

France has large areas of unspoilt countryside, where rural life carries on much as it has for hundreds of years. There might be a few more machines in the fields, but the spirit of France’s rural people has changed little. The same can be said for the delicious wine and artisan food they produce. It’s certainly worth taking time to explore the back roads of regions such as the Dordogne and Ardeche.

A trip up into the mountains is another must for any visitor to France. The French Alps are one of Europe’s premier skiing destinations in winter, and in summer transform into a lush green playground for hikers and mountain bikers.

From the Southern Alps, you can head south into Provence and explore the famous Cote d’Azur. The glitz of Monaco and Cannes is fun for a night or two, but there is much more to the area than that. Explore the wild, ochre mountains and the buzzing city of Nice.

Take a journey through one of Europe’s most fascinating countries on a France overland holiday.
