Dubrovnik has become something of a travel celebrity in recent years. Having escaped the ravages of war that defined it internationally for much too long, it has become a sophisticated beach destination for party people and culture lovers alike. It has also made a name for itself as a place to explore and have adventures, both on land and from the air on a Dubrovnik paragliding trip.
Dubrovnik lies at the eastern end of Croatia’s beautiful, rocky coast. The city itself, with its medieval walled city and harbour, is a UNESCO world heritage site. A short hop from the city centre you’ll find miles of gorgeous (albeit pebbly!) beaches and unspoilt bays. Just off the coast is a sprinkling of islands, some of them inhabited, but many of them not.
Paragliders are well-served in and around Dubrovnik. The city and its surrounds make for great views, and there are some nice high cliffs and hills that serve as good starting points. Attractive, green hills rise up from the coast, peppered with villages and covered in forests.
Paragliders can choose to fly along coastal routes, following the beaches and swinging over the islands and bays. Or, they can stick to the inland routes, lying over pretty valleys and taking in some of the beautiful and largely completely unspoilt countryside. Others take the Dubrovnik cable car to try and get up into the hills and appreciate the views. But paragliders get to see them at their very best. Those with the skill do to so can use the thermals to engage in some fantastic cross-country flying.
