Accra safari holidays & wildlife adventure

Accra is the capital of the colourful West African state of Ghana. It is an increasingly popular tourism destination with westerners looking for something different. Many travel for its beaches, which are stunning: sandy, sunny and palm-fringed. They tick all the tourist boxes, as do the increasingly upmarket resorts. But there is much more to Accra and to Ghana than its beaches. Take an Accra safari and you’ll see that this is a country with plenty of diverse and fascinating wildlife.

Ghana is a mainly low-lying country, with areas of tropical rainforest and grassy plains, as well as its coastal region. You won’t see quite the same amounts of big game in Ghana that you would in much of East Africa. Ghana is a much smaller country, around the size of the UK, with a different landscape. But its smaller scale is part of what makes Ghana so appealing.

In the Mole National Park in northern Ghana, you can see the country’s elephant population on foot, with walking safaris given by local guides. You’ll also see a host of other African ‘tick list’ animals: lions, bison, monkeys and antelope among them. The park is partly woodland, with canopy walkways set up

The coastal area is also rich with wildlife. A dive industry beginning to get established in Ghana, and snorkelling is easy. There are coral reefs teeming with tropical fish to explore just off the coast.

Accra is a vibrant beachside city that is the first stop on a trip to see Ghana’s wildlife. Take an Accra safari and see African big game, colourful marine life and a whole lot more. Ghana is one of Africa’s easiest places to visit, and one of its most attractive.
