For me the one to watch is The Spirit of Flatness

Best ski and snowboard movies on Amazon Prime

Most skiers and snowboarders love to watch winter sports films, documentaries and showreels of their favourite riders. Taking one for the team, I checked out the best ski and snowboard movies on Amazon Prime.

In a previous article I questioned the disappearance of ski and snowboard films from Netflix. With the lack of Netflix action available I turned my attention to Amazon Prime.

As of March 2019 these are the top winter sports films you’ll find on Amazon Prime.

Warren Miller’s Here There & Everywhere – 2016

After his death at 93 years old in 2018 our first offering had to be a Warren Miller movie. Warren Miller’s films are a juggernaut of a ski movie franchise.

Cutting from vintage to new footage and including Warren Miller throughout, this is a celebration and insight into the franchise. After all, a ski season wouldn’t be complete without a Warren Miller film to stoke up your ski mojo!

Film info

For our 67th annual ski and snowboard film, we’re revisiting some of Warren’s favorite places, from Switzerland to Montana, Greenland and everywhere in between, we went where our legacy took us. We went Here, There, And Everywhere.

The Spirit of Flatness – 2018

A short and inspiring film exploring professional snowboarding in Finland. A flat country with no mountains!

It is beautifully shot. Plus you get a real insight into the inventiveness, lifestyle and passion of Finnish snowboarders.

The Spirit of Flatness has been nominated for and won numerous awards. It is a wonderful film and a well deserved entry onto our list of the best ski and snowboard movies on Amazon Prime.

Film Info

A documentary film about traveling through the Finland, snowboarding and figuring out how to practice this sport in such difficult conditions. Finland has some of the best snowboarders in the world, so we invited two interesting riders to our trip. In the film, we are driving 350km into the Arctic Circle and show the highest mountain top where probably no one has been seen on a snowboard before.

TurboDojo – 2017

Another snowboard movie from those geniuses at Absinthe Films. These guys do not know how to make a bad film!

TurboDojo is an awe inspiring, superbly shot film with a banging soundtrack. As usual, the Absinthe crew captures the heart and soul of snowboarding.

Film Info

From the longest standing independent snowboard film makers comes TurboDojo, the new-new from the Absinthe crew featuring Mikkel Bang, Nicolas Müller, Hans Mindnich, Brandon Cocard, Austen Sweetin, Brendan Gerard, Ben Ferguson, Max Buri, Severin VanDerMeer, Kimmy Fasani and more.

Streif: One hell of a ride – 2014

An adrenaline charged documentary about the legendary Hahnenkamm ski race in Kitzbühel. For those of you that probably think that the hardest thing about the race is how to spell it – think again!

The Hahnenkamm is fast, brutal and takes no prisoners. For the winners there is glory awaits, but for the rest it quite often turns to tragedy.

Film Info

Now celebrating its 75th anniversary, the annual Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel, Austria, has produced unforgettable triumphs and heartrending tragedies, a heritage that is full of myths and legends.

Nowhere else is skiing celebrated so intensely. The city, the nation, and the entire winter sports world go crazy for the battles that play out on the slopes.

And the race down the Streif is the most anticipated event of all – the Superbowl of skiing. “STREIF – One Hell of a Ride” vividly shares this momentous occasion, plus everything done in preparation.

Chalet Girl – 2011

Finally, the best ski and snowboard films on Amazon Prime wouldn’t be complete without Chalet Girl. Okay so it’s a little predictable, but a fun, British romcom nonetheless.

Perhaps a good compromise with your loved one? You can snuggle up watching a romantic film together with a take-away, and still enjoy watching some decent snowboarding!

Maybe you’ll recognise Felicity Jones from the Star Wars franchise!

Film Info

Pretty tomboy Kim used to be a champion skateboarder, but now she flips burgers to support herself and her dad. Opportunity comes knocking when she flukes a winter-long catering job in one of the plushest ski chalets in the Alps.
