Often considered some of the most untouched and unspoiled islands in the Caribbean, it’s little wonder that the British Virgin Islands kitesurfing holidays are perennially popular with kitesurfers looking for the best waters.
You’ll find these tiny islands between Puerto Rico and St Martin in the northern part of the Caribbean Sea. The warm, consistent winds and beautiful blue waters have long made this one of the top sailing destinations in the world, and it’s proving to be a hit with kitesurfers too.
All the islands here are relatively small, although there are four main land masses where the majority of the population lives. Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada are the main islands – although each is surrounded by smaller outcrops too. The huge swathes of golden sandy beaches are bordered by impossibly turquoise waters and huge windswept lagoons meaning there are plenty of places to ride.
You can also discover plenty of magical, undiscovered gems around the smaller islands. With lots of reefs creating nice swells and warm waters teeming with tropical fish (this is definitely a trip where you can leave the wet suit at home) you could be forgiven for thinking the BVIs were designed by a higher power specifically with kitesurfers in mind.
The relatively isolated location of British Virgin Islands kitesurfing holidays do give the area a magical quality that doesn’t really exist elsewhere, even in the Caribbean. But hurry, because word is getting out and these waters won’t be this empty for much longer.
The safer, shallower lagoons are ideal for beginners and the reefs provide plenty of challenges for more experienced riders (watch out for coral). So, all in all, British Virgin Islands kitesurfing holidays are about as close to perfect as you’ll find on the planet.
