Florianopolis is an island city in southern Brazil. It is a busy, exciting city with an attractive historic centre and plenty of upmarket shopping and nightlife. A big white sand beach stretches along one side of the city, with the Atlantic Ocean rolling in onto it. Why not head out into it on a Florianopolis scuba diving trip?
There are some great dive sites near the city. Florianopolis’ waters are clean, clear and full of marine life. The Arvoredo Marine Reserve is the main draw for most, with several good sites. It is a collection of islands a short way off the shore, seen by many as one of the best places to dive in Brazil.
The islands have a huge variety of marine life, good visibility, and some nice easy dives that beginners upwards will be able to take on easily. They lie at a point where warm and cool currents meet, creating great conditions for life to flourish. There is plenty of colourful coral, lots of schooling reef fish, sea horses, rays, turtles and even penguins! Most diving is done in the summer, when the visibility is at its best (up to 25m), but if you do brave the cooler winter waters, you might catch sight of migrating whales.
There are also a few wrecks in the area, most notably the Lily, a freighter ship that sunk in the 1950s and is still pretty well preserved.
A Florianopolis scuba diving trip is a chance to see one of Brazil’s best-loved dive sites, with a very wide variety of marine life. It’s also a fantastic city to stay in and explore, with great beaches and lots going on.
