Guide to Los Roques kiteboarding holidays

The marine national park of Los Roques is located about 200 miles off the Venezuelan coast, and often known as the Venezuelan Maldives. It’s a place of incredible natural beauty and, covering 220,000 hectares, it’s the largest marine park in the Caribbean. Which is why Los Roques kitesurfing holidays come highly recommended.

Home to around 330 islands, islets and cays, the archipelago is characterised by beautiful white sand beaches, crystal clear warm waters and strong surf. This is the archetypal Caribbean paradise and provides the ultimate tranquil setting for a kitesurfing adventure.

The waters at Los Roques are almost unbelievably turquoise, even more so than the famous Grenadines. Reminiscent of a glass table, this is a place that has to be seen to be believed. And yet despite this beauty, it is still relatively unknown and rarely visited by tourists.

With plenty of downwinders and the chance to kitesurf from one picture book island to the next, Los Roques kitesurfing holidays are the stuff of dreams. The trade winds are fairly constant and when it really blows you’re going to know about it. Wind speeds of 25 to 30 knots are not uncommon.

Los Roques kitesurfing holidays need to take in Las Aves and Bonaire, and anything short of two weeks means you might miss out on some of the incredible destinations your guides can recommend. Plus, once you’re there, you’ll almost certainly want to stay for as long as possible.

The little keys and islets off Sebastopol are usually perfect for kiting and the flat waters on Francisque are great for beginners and intermediate kiteboarders to gain in confidence. With perfect conditions and some really fun kitesurfing, Los Roques is a highly recommended destination if you’re looking for an unforgettable trip.
