Guide to France kiteboarding holidays

France kitesurfing can be divided into three main areas; the north, west and south. In the north of France you will be kitesurfing in the channel where you will find similar conditions to those on the south coast of the UK. On the west coast you will find strong Atlantic winds and some swell. On the south coast the land meets the Mediterranean, where the waters are a lot calmer and the air temperature a little warmer.

All year round you will need a wetsuit that suits the season. Although temperatures in the south can get into the 30s so boardies are an option for the height of the summer.

If heading to the North for a France kitesurfing trip why not take a look at Wissant. This spot is just south west of the ferry port of Calais. This kite spot is  quite well known for waves and has a lovely sandy beach.

For the west coast you will probably head to La Rochelle in the middle of the Bay of Biscay. This is where most of the west of France kitesurfing takes place. A spot called Les Huttes is great spot for all rider abilities, with a good mix of flat water and rolling waves breaking on the reef. It is a very traditional part of France but you will also find a little bit of nightlife if that is what you want. Hotels are not hard to find here but there is also the option of B&B’s or even camping.

On the south coast of France a spot called St Pierre La Mer is worth a look and the kite school of Sudwindsports will look after you.

A France kitesurf holiday could be had in so many places along the French coast that you will be spoilt for choice.
