Grenada is a colourful and attractive Caribbean nation. It is often overlooked by travellers looking for a bit of sun, sea and sand, in favour of bigger names such as Barbados. Grenada is made up of three islands, the main Grenada Island, and six smaller islands. It is the main island that takes most of the tourist traffic and is the best for windsurfing. The Atlantic side of the island tends to be windier and wavier than the Caribbean side.
The south-western corner of the island is home to some lovely, sheltered Caribbean beaches. Grand Anse Beach is Grenada’s most popular beach. It’s the one that features in all the travel brochures, with its huge sweep of white sand and clear blue water. It is home to a good choice of watersports operators and some nice, varied conditions .Beginners will find some good wind and flat water near the beach all year round. Further out, a wind funnel creates great freestyle conditions.
If you are looking for waves, try heading to the isolated Levera Beach, on the northern Atlantic side. The beach is best reached in a 4×4, but it’s worth the effort. It is a natural, unspoilt beach with 600m of white sand and some impressive waves to take on.
